Who is eligible for Free School Meals?

We encourage all parents and carers to ensure that staff at our school knows whether their child is entitled to Free School Meals or has a parent who is a member of the armed forces.  If you think your child is eligible, please speak to our office staff who can assist you in completing an application.

Parents can register their child for Free School Meals if they are in receipt of any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  •

What are the main barriers to learning for our children eligible for PPG?

Barriers to learning can come in a variety of forms.  Sir John Dunford, the Government’s National Pupil Premium Champion form 2013-15, identifies that “barriers to learning might include poor parenting, limited access to language, poor literacy levels, poor attendance, low aspirations, low expectations, narrow experiences of life outside school”.  We will establish the barriers to learning and match the support given to the need identified.

How will we spend our allocation in order to address these barriers to learning?
