All children now have a reading book and reading journal in their book bag. Please read with your child and record in the journal daily, thank you!
We are excited and passionate about our learning in Reception. Our class teacher is Mrs Wells and Miss Glackin is our teaching assistant. We also have Miss Willard on Fridays. We plan with our teacher exciting activities and our environment and we are encouraged to share our ideas. We have a large classroom and an even bigger outside area!
Our learning is celebrated with our parents and carers through our Learning Explorer books and shared through Tapestry.
We are always encouraged to move our own learning forward by developing our interests, making our own choices and being independent learners.
We love working and playing together.
We are encouraged to 'have a go' and experience success!

Weekly update (w/ending 25.9.20):
This week the children have had an exciting start to our brand new phonics program- Song of Sounds! We have met Frog who will be learning his letter sounds (phonemes) alongside the children and we've started learning our phonics song as well. The children will bring home a copy of the words to show you next week! All the sounds taught in Reception have an action that goes with it- try and encourage your child to share these with you when you go through the song.
The children have been introduced to the book characters 'Biff', 'Chip', 'Kipper' and 'Floppy' which they will see throughout the early stages of our colour band system. I have read/shared our first stage reading books (pink+ band) with the children on a 1:1 basis. Your child should have a colour band book, reading journal and library book in their book bags. Please use the reading journal to record your child reading/sharing books with yourselves/other family members. Colour band reading books are changed once I've read with your child. I aim to read at least once a week with every child.
Library Books - Please note, our class library time is Monday morning, this is where the children will be able to chose a new book to bring home. We encourage choice with reading books so your child may bring home a book that they are, as yet, unable to read. Please continue to share these books to encourage a love of reading.
Seasonal Weather - Please can you ensure that children are coming to school with a named coat that is suitable for wet weather and a pair of welly boots that can be left at school. We will be going outside in all weathers unless the rain is extremely heavy!
Please check book bags daily, whilst we use ParentMail for the majority of our communication, additional letters and information may get put in there (e.g. flu vaccination forms). You'll also find reading books/journals in there as well.
Please check that all items of clothing, water bottles, book bags and PE kits are named.
Children should only bring water into school in their water bottles- juice or squash is not permitted.
A fruit or vegetable snack is provided for the children every day but if you wish to provide an extra snack for your child you are more than welcome (fruit or vegetable based only).
There are no after school clubs this term at the moment or show and tell in class due to Covid-19. If guidance changes, we will let you know.
Finally, the email address used to correspond over the summer with you is no longer active. If you wish to get in contact with me, please telephone or email the school office and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
This year PE will be taking place on a Friday. Please ensure that children have a named PE kit in school that includes: coloured PE top, shorts, tracksuit bottoms/joggers and jumper/hoodie for colder weather and suitable footwear. It would be helpful to the children if tights were not worn on PE days as it does take them a little while to get changed when they first start PE lessons. Please also ensure that earrings are taken out on PE days or children are provided with tape to cover them over. The children should be able to remove/cover earrings themselves.
