Ferring Church of England Primary School

An Inspiring Place to Grow, Believe and Achieve

Please don't forget to read with your child at least 3 times a week!

Welcome to Nadia Shireen Class!

We are excited and passionate about our learning in Reception. Our class teacher is Mrs Wells and Mrs Vince is our teaching assistant. We also have Miss Willard on Fridays. We plan together and to create an exciting learning journey each half term. We have a large classroom and an even bigger outside area!

Our learning is celebrated with our parents and carers through our Learning Journals and shared through Tapestry.

We are always encouraged to move our own learning forward by developing our interests, making our own choices and being independent learners.

We love working and playing together.

We are encouraged to 'have a go' and experience success!

We learn best when we are happy!

Weekly update (w/beginning 27.9.21): Our topic this half term is 'Wonderful Me!'

Topic- On Monday we came back after assembly to find a bucket, book and a lot of dinosaurs trying to climb in! After reading 'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs' we started to explore lots of different dinosaurs. We learnt that some were carnivores and some were herbivores! We are very excited to learn more about dinosaurs this term!

Tapestry-  Please check your emails over the next week as we link you to your child on tapestry. This is where you can see what they are learning and upload pictures of their home learning if it links to our topic or skills for the week. Please speak to Mrs Wells for more information and help if it's not working!

Phonics-  This week have learnt our 12th sound! So far, we have learnt: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c and k! The children are enjoying learning the song and using the actions to help remember the phonemes (sounds). We are now starting to form the letters (graphemes) and taking our first steps as readers and writers.

Maths-  We have been learning about the number 1 and what a semi-circle is. We have been practising how to form our numbers 0-9 and sorting and matching loose items.

Literacy-  Our focus text for this half term is 'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs'. We are developing our love of print and immersing the children in a huge variety of fiction books- the children love books that make them laugh!

Reading- Children should be reading at least 3 times a week at home. Please use the reading record book to keep note of when you have read with your child and any comments about their reading.

Reminders:

Children should be coming to school with a water bottle everyday (only water, no juice or squash please).

Coats and welly boots will be needed now as the weather turns otherwise children will not be able to get outside as we only have a few spares. Please name welly boots as these stay at school throughout the year.

Please check book bags daily, whilst we use ParentMail for the majority of our communication, additional letters and information may get put in there. You'll also find reading books/journals in there as well.

If you wish to get in contact with me, please telephone or email the school office or on reception@ferringceschool.co.uk and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

This year PE will be taking place on a  Friday. Please ensure that children have a named PE kit in school that includes: coloured PE top, shorts, tracksuit bottoms/joggers and jumper/hoodie for colder weather and suitable footwear. It would be helpful to the children if tights were not worn on PE days as it does take them a little while to get changed when they first start PE lessons. Please also ensure that earrings are taken out on PE days or children are provided with tape to cover them over. The children should be able to remove/cover earrings themselves.
