DO YOU WANT TO BE A PLAY LEADER IN YEAR 6?

Usually at this time of year Pete Gwynn would be working with some of the Year 5 pupils on training to be PALs (Play Active Leaders).  Instead, he has sent us a pack that the Year 5 children can work on at home to try and develop their PALs skills, as pupils would normally be participating in this activity this half term to learn the important skills needed to be a Play Leader.  This pack can be downloaded below along with the video which pupils can view to learn about what it is like being a Play Leader and what a Play Leader does. If you would like to be chosen to be a Play Leader in Year 6 please complete Activity 2 in the Play Leader's pack, writing your application letter addressed to Mr Ryan, Miss Squires and Mrs Teakle explaining why you want to be a Play Leader and why you would be good at it.  Please send your application letters to year5@ferringceschool.co.uk where we look forward to reading your applications ready to choose our Play Leaders for next year in Year 6.

Dear Parents and Carers of Year 5,

Welcome to Year 5’s Home Learning page! I hope you all had a great week last week! Below I have uploaded the new home-learning activities and resources for the week ahead under the 'YEAR 5 HOME-LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES' section. Please upload your child's work to your child's Tapestry profile or email it to me at: year5@ferringceschool.co.uk so I can send your child feedback for all the wonderful work they are doing. Thank you! Please also send in any photographs of fun activities and home-learning taking place that you and your child would like to share on the class home-learning page. Please email them to me at: year5@ferringceschool.co.uk. Thank you!

As the pupils would normally be meeting their new class teacher and taking part in transition activities at this time of year, I wanted to let you know that a transition booklet will be available soon for your child to learn about their new class teacher and find out more about next year when the pupils will be in Year 6.

PE and Science activities and resources have been uploaded for your child to take part in and can be accessed on the main home-learning page or by clicking on the links below. We recommend that pupils take part in at least two hours of physical activity a week. To access the PE activities and for more details please click here.   I would like as many of the class as possible to take part in the 'Specsaver's Virtual School Games 2020' competition this week.  The details can be found in the 'PE Topic Activities' section on this page.  Please click here to access the Science page full of activities and resources which your child can be doing.  Mr Ryan and Mr Virgoe would love to see any photographs, videos or work produced linked to any PE or Science activities you undertake.  Please send the PE ones to year5@ferringceschool.co.uk and the Science ones to Mr Virgoe at: year3@ferringceschool.co.uk.

Mindfulness Colouring Activities:

Everyone needs a calm moment now and again. Colouring is an activity that sparks the logical and creative aspects of the brain into action. If you think of colouring like a mental exercise, then you're keeping your brain active and improving coordination. These mindfulness colouring pages are a great way of focusing your mind on a relaxing task. Print out the colouring pages you wish to do for when you might need a quiet moment.

English Reading:

Reading for Pleasure:

Pupils should continue to read for pleasure recording the book title, number of pages read and the author of the book.  These details can be recorded in their Home Reading Diaries.  If pupils cannot find their diary they can log this in the back of their Home Learning Book.

Pupils can choose books from home as well as from books set online on 'Reading Planet'.  These can be fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts. The books can be in paper or online formats.  Newspapers, graphic novels, research done online all count as well as poems and play scripts.  A good test to check if a text is at the right level for your child is the five finger test:

English Reading Activities:

This week I'd like the pupils to login to 'Reading Planet' and read at least one of the books which I have assigned them and complete the quizzes linked to the book chosen. I have uploaded a range of fiction and non-fiction texts for you to choose from. You can read more than one book if you have time.  Your child may want to read another book or text of their choice instead of using the Reading Planet program resources and that is fine too!

Information about Reading Planet:

We have signed up to 'Reading Planet' from Rising Stars where pupils can access e-books to read online and take part in mid-point and end of reading quizzes. I have assigned reading books for the pupils to choose to read and I will add new online reading e-books each week from a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. The 'Reading Planet' website can be accessed by clicking on the URL below.  Pupils will need their username and password to access the site which I have emailed to those of you whose email addresses I already have.  If you need your child's login details for Reading Planet please email me at: year5@ferringceschool.co.uk.
